All new incoming international students to the Dunedin campus need to register for a new international student enrolment and orientation seminar before arrival.

PhD and Master by thesis students may arrive all through the year and do not attend semester 1 or 2 orientation seminars. Students in these circumstances should see an International Student Adviser by visiting AskOtago on arrival. Newly arriving semester 1 and 2 students should sign up for a seminar which takes place during O-week.

At the seminar, students are given information about:

  • Completing enrolment at Otago
  • Comprehensive information about all Student Services at the University
  • General information about Dunedin, Otago, and New Zealand
  • Receiving the ID card (or instructions on how and when to do this)
  • Starting studies at Otago and selecting papers
  • Visa and insurance enquiries and support

Seminar registration will be available from mid-January for those starting in Semester 1 and mid-May for those starting in Semester 2. Students need to bring their passport, and a paper copy of their electronic visa, if available.
